:bassist: Ok... Now comes my final decision, do I want a 400 watt or 800 watt amp? Can you guys please put your input. I'm looking to play infront of about 100-2000 people if that helps any. The brands I am looking at are SWR and Ampeq only. Thanks... _-soto-_ :bassist:

In San Luis Obispo, eh? You won't need aything bigger than 400w. In bigger venues everything is run through a PA anyway.

My thinking is a 2:1 power ratio is too close to matter that much.

400 watts is plenty to deafen everyone in the room, including yourself
  4. depends on what style of material I'd say. Pick-driven, rock styles will be fine with 400w's. Bass heavy, cleaner styles like dub or fusion may require more headroom. I would personally go for the extra bit of insurance 800w's offers.
