Hello all, I was begining to wonder is 5 string ABG models existed outside of Rogue. And then on ebay, I ran across an Ovation. It looks really nice. Anyone have experience with this model? It's an Ovation B5768-4 .
Ovations arn't bad, if you can get over the Bowl Backs... the bowls arn't bad in their guitar models, but in their bass models they are HUGE. I haven't played the 5 string version of this guitar, but I did play the 4 string one... the problem I had with exception of the bowl back was there was pretty bad fret buzz, that may have been due to bad setup, I don't know. Also... More 5 string A/E Basses... Ibanez AEB305LG Tachoma CB105 (Its new because of Demand) Epiphone El Capitan 5 String Dean Performer 5 Plus 5-String Bass Soo.... Um no, Rogue is not the only company that makes 5 string basses... in fact far from it.
Gabu: I haven't really experimented with THAT SPECIFIC bass but I've experienced some 5 string ABGs. I know i've tried some Ibanez, Fender and Taylor. I didn't like the B string for all of them.. Its too floppy and its hard to create that B sound thru that hole. There is not enough of "volume" to it Also with ovations, you have that curved back so it might slip when your playing while sitting down DM
I have one exactly the same, but with a black top. It sounds pretty quiet unplugged even with the extra room of the bowl-back but that is supposed to improve the projection. When plugged in, it sounds sweet - crisp and clear, and cuts right through the mix (when you record for example, or even live). I bought it new, and it did have some upper-fret fretbuzz, but my luthier fixed that easily. I cracked the neck on mine about a year ago though.
