5 string fretless pickups

  1. im gonna get a carvin bb75 in a far time. it's defitinly going to be a fretless and the electronics are active/passive system. what pups would be compatible with the preamp and max the fretless sounnd.

    Carvin uses normal (4-string) width J pups in their 5 and 6 string basses. So most any "5-string J-bass" pickup you get will be too long, I think. I could be wrong.

    Despite my total lack of experience with them, I'll recommend Bartolini 9W5Js, if they fit (proper string spacing is important with these too).

    Bartolini jazz-style pickups or seymor duncan hand wound jazz style combined with the Bartolini TMB pre-amp. You can't go wrong with either combo.
