just got off the phone with Chris, he says give it 30 days before they hit the stores.

that's conservative. he has 24 DONE DONE DONE, ready to ship!

one comment he made, was how impressed he was with the 4 STRING FRETTED Sabers.

    punch, punch, punch.

man, i can't wait to go up there week after next.

he's asked me to record some LW samples...OY!!!! the pressure...i guess i could do Donna Lee on each model.

    :p

    Back on topic....

I have a Korean Dean Edge 5 string fretless and I love it and often rave here about it. It's under your price range though. If you have a local Dean dealer see if they can get any of the Czech made Dean Edge Improv models in. They're very Spectorish with the same hardware and electronics, as well as very similar construction and finish as they're made side by side in the same factory. Neck thru, active EMG, top notch construction, and right smack dab in the middle of your price range. Great basses.

  18. I have a SR5 fretless. It nails down that (Pino) sound heard on a lot of Paul Young and Don Hendly ( I don't know how to spell "Hendly") recordings. ( Probably because Pino plays a SR4 frettless) I don't play it all the time but I can't think of a better 5 string fretless.

  19. A good old Yamaha TRB5F or TRB5IIF will be a good choice for that price range. The wide string spacing will also make the transition from a 4 to 5 much easier.
