51 reissue precision vs the 57?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Tajue17, Jan 4, 2006.

  1. I just ordered a 51 reissue precision and I will be playing it through a Ampeg B4R on top of a 4X10 & 1X15 classic cabs and I'm a pick player and wondering about the sound and will it be too bright? I heard the 57 has a much warmer sounding pickup so I'm wondering if anyone out there has an opinion on the two different sounds?

also, what about the Basslines telepickups for these basses do they sound good?

TO me, both bave the basic P-bass sound. The main difference is that the 51 will have the 60 cycle hum and a less comfy body.
  3. I'd say the 57 is a tried and true setup. Both sound similar, except I'd assume that the the 51 might have a slightly thinner sound and more noise. I prefer the 57, its design has remained virtually unchanged ever since and it's still a standard.
