Has anyone heard of a six string acoustic/electric , hollow or semi-hollow body bass? I'm looking for one that could be considered a bari guitar (tuned like a guitar only an octave lower, same string spacing as a guitar). Wanting something that is still fairly thin, but would like sumthing that makes a little more sound then "clang clang clang" when playing it.

Anybody have any suggestions for someone to make me a custom? keep in mind I dont have much money to spend.

Daniel Fernandez builds 6 string acoustic's. I actually have a 6 that will be done soon and a 7 string acoustic to follow.

There was a thread on 6 string acoustic's just a few weeks ago.

    Thanks

    Mmm, very cool.

But do run a search, as we JUST had a fairly long thread about 6 string acoustics.

Rob Allen does sixs, and I can assure you when your comparing ABG's that there is Rob Allen then everyone else, I'd own one in a heartbeat if I could do enough accoustic work to justify. The producrion stuff leaves me kinda cold, even the Martin ( and I love Martin gutiars almost as much as sadowsky basses) isn't really that impressive.

An Allen, great though it is, is not really an ABG. Nothing with a center block really is IMHO. This isn't a putdown, just a distinction.

For those, Rob Allens are superb.

A maker in England does something very like them:

I have a couple of his basses and he's great to deal with.

Other people can do them as well. I believe Conklin has, and I'm almost positive JP (a French maker) has as well:

  11. IIRC, I saw a 6-string acoustic at a guitarshow once. I think it was a late 80's-early 90's Larrivee.
