6 string bass teacher recommendation

Hello everyone,

I've recently bought a 6 string bass, which is the instrument that I wanted to play since I've started playing 2.5 years ago. The switch from 4 to 6 wasn't problematic at all, I got used to it fast, now it's just a matter of practice and using the extended range properly.

I am getting serious about playing and I'm trying to find a teacher that focuses on 6 string playing, especially jazz. Since I live in a country where the average salary is about 5 times lower than in the US, I can't really afford more than ~120$ per month, I might be able to stretch a bit. I am looking for someone who's highly methodical and serious, I need to have goals to achieve and a clear roadmap, that's the best way for me to learn.

I've contacted Todd Johnson (waiting for answer), he seems very serious, but I'd like to contact some other people and see how they work and what they offer.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I play a six string as well, just into the intermediate level, and I also was looking around for a good online instructor. Todd Johnson's name kept coming up in recommendations from various sources. Other names were few and far between. You might also try Johnny Cox in the UK but his youtube lessons seem to have gone dormant so I don't know if he's still active.

Sadly, $120USD per month isn't going to get you very far with a credible instructor. I would guess one 1 hour lesson per month. Maybe two 1/2 hours, stretching it.

Good luck!

Thank you both for your recommendations. @KenD Johnny was the first guy I contacted, but he's completely off the radar, it's such a shame, his lessons are great.

I've also contacted Russ, he seems like a very serious musician and the pricing is such that I might be able to get 2 lessons a month.
