I've got a 6 string bass arriving and I want to tune it EADGBE because I am a reformed guitar player and don't want that knowledge to go to waste. It seems like tuning the low B to an E would cause too much tension on the neck (35" scale). What string guages would anyone recommend and what kind of sets are available so I can tune it this way. I use an EADG on my P-Bass but I want to expand my horizons. Thanks.

  2. I'd say try to get your hands on a 7 string set that has the high F string. Conklin makes some, I believe. Basically you'll get BEADGCF, but you can just leave out the B and drop the top 2 strings.

Don't even try to do this, you could ruin your neck!!!!

Dean markley sells 7 string sets:

    B - .127
    E - .107
    A - .087
    D - .067
    G - .047
    C - .027
    F - .022

At Conklin you can find snakeskin sets and also single strings.

tuning a string up that far would probably make it snap

Yep. That's why I asked because I knew there had to be a way that people did it without doing the impossible. Believe me, I would never try to tune a string that tight! Going to get a 7 string set tomorrow!
