6 String Electric "Bass" Guitars (Like the Fender VI)

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bertbassplayer, Oct 16, 2001.

  1. I was wondering if anyone knew any more stuff on octive tuned down guitars, like the Fender VI Bass, and the Danelectro VI Bass. Also, does anyone have any info about maybe building one myself.

Most of 'em are 28" to 30" scale... they have guitar-like string spacing... John and George used 'em sometimes when Paul was playing guitar... but beyond that, dunno much.

Warmoth has a baritone "conversion" neck that will fit
    one of their standard bodies.

Rob makes one too! :D:rolleyes: The BB-2 lists for $1750.

What do they sound like? I can't say exactly. I did run across
the album below at chacra music.

The name on the cover and the guitar's headstock look oddly familiar...

I've been looking around for one of these too, and so far, only Ernie Ball and Fender seem to make affordable and decent quality models. I think a company called Fury might make one, but I'm not quite sure.
  7. notduane, you probobly misunderstood what I was talking about... I was not looking on info about Baritone Guitars (Tuned 5th below a Guitar) I was looking at "Bass" Octive Guitars (Tuned an Octive Below a Guitar)

FWIW bert, your standard electric bass is tuned an octave below a guitar.

Danelectro has a cheapie 6 string short scale.

They have sound samples on the site as well.

OOPS! You already knew about the Dan-O.
