Has anyone ever played a 6string Jazz bass? Do they even exist? If so what do you think of them.

I don't believe Fender makes a six-stringer, unless maybe someone custom ordered one at some point. But plenty of other companies make 6 string super jazz basses. Carvin, for example. There are too many to name.

Martin Petersen who makes the wonderful Sei bass makes a Jazz version in 4, 5 or 6 string. You might want to check out the website

I have not played one of his Jazzes but I play a 7 string fretless flamboyant that he made so I can confirm the quality and playability of his basses.

    Happy hunting

Both Atelier Z (Japan) and Curbow (Georgia, USA) make a 6 string Jazz style bass. I haven't played the Atelier, but the Curbow was VERY impressive...

    :D

  6. Isn't the Yamaha John Patitucci model a jazz model?

    :bassist:

  7. HotWire makes a six-string Jazz. It used to be the Dann Glenn model and is now available as a custom model.

Well, it's a jazz model with a small "j", but I think the original poster is looking for basses that are styled like a Fender Jazz Bass.

I probably sound like a broken record,;) but again I would mention Jon Shuker, as I seem to be one of the few people in the States who have even heard of his stuff. He does make 4, 5, and 6 string J models. He's not one of the big names, especially in the US, but he does good work for reasonable prices.

Here's the headstock. This isn't final since Greg really doesn't want to get sued when he starts selling more of them. :D

Check out the serious birdseye on that thing. Yow!

Oooh, those Curbows are nice. I had no idea he was doing those.
Here's a pic of a Shuker 5 (he doesn't have any 6s up yet, but he's planning to put up a pic soon), if I can figure out how to do this ....

Here are some six string jazz basses by Hot Wire.
    They look pretty sweet.

well, there was a six-stringer Fender once, but it looked like a Strat (you know, the geetar) - it had narrow string spacing and three (3!) strat-like single-coils. very limited production, not many were made... BUT there WAS a SIX-STRING FENDER.
fender doesnt make sixer jazzes, but there are many (more or less) custom-builders out there - and the others before me did a nice job bringing up quite a few examples.
