62 re-issue P-Pickup

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by eljuapo, Jan 10, 2004.

  1. So I've seen people reference this pickup for Fender and say that it's quite a nice pickup. Having looked all over Hell and high water on the Fender site, I haven't been able to find it. Is this what Fender refers to as the "Original" P-Bass pickup? That's the only one they sell or list on their site.

Can someone clear this up for me?

  2. Yes, this is the '62 reissue Precision pickup.

    Original '62 Precision Pickup

Fender lists only 3 replacement bass pickups: the '62 P, '62 Jazz and Custom Shop Jazz.

  3. I'd just like to mention that it doesn't mention that it's a '62 or a re-issue pup. Therein lies my confusion I guess.

Re-issue. The pups that are for sale there weren´t manufactured 42 years ago.

  5. I see. I knew because I have a couple Fender catalogues from 2002 and 2003. Definitely reissue. ;)

pickups are listed under SPA -strings parts acces. on fender site - part no is 099-2046-000
if you look at basses under American Vintage for '57 Reissue and '62 Reissue and Custom Shop for '59 NOS
they describe the pickups that come with the basses - '62 RI gets the Original precision pickup

  7. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
