There is a British company, the Guitar Emporium that has ready access to current CIJ Fender Jazz basses. They can get their hands on a lefty '62 Reissue and by the time a case and shipping is added in the cost is $1,350 or so.

    or

The Deluxe Jazz basses (2008) have been getting stellar reviews here and cost about the same amount.

    What would you do?

    Hard choice!!

Too bad you can't play them both specifically before the purchase. That would help.

Hands down the MIA deluxe. Having the 3-band eq and preamp will give you so much more versatility then a passive jazz....and tons more punch and fatness! I have both, I go for the Deluxe 99% of the time.

    Classic Jazz- thanks

Which would be "deeper" and have more thump? Or should I look elsewhere?

I like the idea of buying MIA stuff and dealing with a USA retailer..... especially if it is better...

The Deluxe. Don't forget that sucker has a 18V preamp in it. I own a bunch of Fender Jazz basses, three out of the four are active. I can never see me buying a passive one again. I like them that much!
