Hello Everyone, I am selling a '62 RI NON EXPORT MIJ Fender Jazz Bass. This bass plays and sounds like a bass worth way more. It was consturcted in 1991 and during this time, it's a general consensus that Fender Japan was putting out better instruments then Fender USA. Take a look at the finish. The Color is Trans Red and it looks in person like Dark Cherry or Trans Wine Red. Some of these early Non-export instruments are considered to be the quality of Fender Custom Shop as they were all hand assembled by the skilled Fender Japan workers. For a 17 year old instrument that has been played quite a bit, it is in excellent shape. The pickguard is mint green, but didn't really show up too well on the pics. This bass has the top of the line upgrades for it. The bass is equipped with Nordstrand NJ4SV PU's, J Retro- 01 Preamp, Bad Ass Bridge. To icing on the cake is that it has a fresh fret job done by Master Luthier Greg Back. http://www.gregbackguitars.com/Articles/articles.html The upgrades cost Nordstrand NJ4SV $230 J-Retro $299 Bad Ass $67 Re Fret $225 This is over $800 in upgrades. Of course the fret job can not be included in the price. You are getting a beautifully made bass with the highest end components. Now for the pics. The color is a deep red and the grain is nicely visible. This is the most noticable ding. Considering the upgrades, I will start the price at $875 OBO.
Thanks. It looks better in person. It weights in between 9-9.4 pounds by the oh so inaccurate bathroom scale technique. The bass used to be light, but the JRetro and Bad Ass actually add a noticeable amount to weight to the bass.
Anyway, the finish is original, was done over 17 years ago, and still looks great. Here is a pic in sunlight
FWIW, the Pickup installation and Preamp installation was done my ESTEEMED TB member Maurilio. He knows a thing or two about basses.
Well, regardless of the original finish issue, it's a darn nice bass. One which I can't afford right now, otherwise I'd be all over it. I must say Hambone does make very valid points, but again, it's a sick bass regardless. Good deal either way!
Well reguardless of the self-rightious and accusitory posts made earlier, I think it's a great bass! There, I had the balls to say it........
