I currently have roughly 650 dollars put away for a bass. I am looking for one new or used that is good enough to do gigs with that is in this price range.

I have not had pleasing results and any input would be very helpful.

I play all genres of music. I have looked into some used fenders and that is basically the progress I have made.

    Thank You

P.S- You can give or take some money, about 800 dollars would be max...

If you use ebay, these are the things you'll get for $650 or less ('cause these are trades I've done):

Warwick Corvette Standard (German, not Rockbass)
Rickenbacker (but won't be in "perfect" shape at that price)
Washburn USA - underrated bass. Nice woods, Bart pickups and preamp.
Tobias Growler - it gets trashed here, but I think it is a nice bass (mine is fretless).

  4. For the money ($400 - $500) the Yamaha BB 405 and 605 are the best value in a 34" scale bass. Solid construction and they play very well in tune.

Otherwise for a 35" scale look for any Lakland Skyline. They start street price at $800 new and up. You can also look for a used one on ebay.

I gotta go with what Muji is recomending. Those are very good playing and sounding basses. The price he's asking for it is more than reasonable too. Its definatly a good buy.

    Yeah. Music Man.
  14. WHOA! That's one of the best prices I've seen on a Roscoe Beck 5 in that condition! I would jump on that.

Fleckbass211, what do you mean you haven't had pleasing results? You haven't found a bass you like, or salesmen have been nasty to you? Try to play as many basses as you can, it's the only way to find out for certain what you like and dislike.

    I have a Spector NS2000 four-string Neck-thru for sale!! E-mail me or send me a message if you're interested.

  18. I would go for a nice Jazz bass. The best one in your budget, IMO of course, woul be the Geddy Lee signature bass. They go for $630 new but you can usually find them cheaper on eBay. I know I recommend it a lot, but I LOVE this bass! I also suggest maybe saving a little more and dropping in a J-Retro preamp or dropping one in a less expensive jazz (i LOVE the J-Retro, too).
