  2. I wouldn’t think a simple 1/4” thick (or less) top could add that much money. Must be a typo...

  4. Maybe the typo is in Ibanez’s own press release ...:bag::thumbsdown:

Can't find the bass on Ibanez's website. You would think it would be there.

To play devil's advocate, if you picked the cream of the crop from Ibanez's luthiers, put them together to build their best ever, and they decided to put top shelf electronics in them, I'd bet their product would compare to current boutique offerings.

I'm a big Ibanez fan. They absolutely know how to make a bass and have been doing it pretty much as long as anyone. That said, I sure don't own anything close to a $6500 bass, I likely never will, and if I was going to buy one, I really doubt it would be an Ibanez. But I sure would look at it.

Edit: The print ad on that link is a total fail for a $6500 bass. Ugh. They apparently need to hire technical writers at Ibanez.

Once things get up into the 2-ish/3-ish K$ range, I start thinking about bespoke rather than off the rack. In practice, I'm sure an SR2021 goes for quite a bit less than 6.5K, but jeez.

I wouldn't spend that much on an Ibanez nor any other brand unless it was actually custom built to my specs. Other than that, not a chance.

Especially not the new 2021 limited edition model, ooh they used some blue epoxy to fill in the gaps of a piece of wood. Epoxy isn't expensive, isn't hard to use but it's like Ibanez are saying to themselves "we've gained a substantial following in recent years, let's see if we can get enough suckers to buy this".

Oh and yes I do play an Ibanez SR1206 and a SR405, but this model is ridiculous.

For that price I would want 7 strings, 30 frets, hipshot extender, monorails with piezos, bridge, middle and neck pickups all splitable, midi out, active/passive switch, four band eq with two parametric mid controls.

I don't care if it is limited or rare if it is really just a dolled up normal bass.

That type of resin work takes a lot of time to get it clean with no bubbles. Look up "live edge river" tables. I would assume some of that same process applies to the crafting the bass.

I could be completely wrong though. It happens, lol.

It's the initials of the guy's name folks exclaim when they see the price.

  16. If it's an LACS instrument then the price is fairly justified.

The Prestige models are all made in Japan and actually made by Ibanez, rather than in Korea or Indonesia by Cor-Tec or some other factory on retainer. They’re supposed to be top tier.
Don’t know if that makes them worth $6,500 though.
Only ever got to the ‘Premium’ tier which is the next step down. @hypercarrots would know more about them than I.

They could at least put a better pre in there. That's the same one from the premiums
