Hey everybody, I'm new here and I was wondering if any of you could offer some of your wisdom regarding a bass of mine. I bought this bass off of Curtis Ohlson (Ray Charles, Pete Escoveda, Pee Wee Ellis) and it has got to be the best Jazz bass I've ever played. He used this bass on both of his solo albums and he said when he got it the neck was really warped. The neck said it was made in 1966 so he assumed the body was as well. However, I was wondering if there was any way to verify this. Here's the only pictures I have for now (my wife just took our digital camera out of town!). If there's any experts on older jazz basses that can tell by looking at these if it resembles a 66 or not I'd appreciate it. Some other information: The space for the neck pickup is cut wider than the bridge pickup, i.e. there's extra room there. There are no holes for screws where I've seen the "finger" rest below the neck pickup on other 66 jazz basses. Also, there's nine holes for the screws of the pickguard, I haven't seen a pickguard style yet that fits it. The neck was made by a luthier in San Francisco named Doug Roomian and the pickups are active Seymour Duncans (that was just to satisfy any curiosiy, I realize that has no bearing on the original body!).

Thanks a lot! I got a tortoise pickguard on it now because I like that color combination, but the pickguard doesn't fit it perfectly like the white one in the pics. It's good enough for now though. I forgot to mention that the serial number on the neckplate is 143763.

Big script "F" on neckplate below serial number. Known as the CBS era.

    100000 to 110000 = late 1965
    110000 to 200000 = 1966
    180000 to 210000 = 1967
    210000 to 250000 = 1968
    250000 to 280000 = 1969
    280000 to 300000 = 1970
    300000 to 330000 = 1971
    330000 to 370000 = 1972
    370000 to 520000 = 1973
    500000 to 580000 = 1974
    580000 to 690000 = 1975
    690000 to 750000 = 1976
