Hellow once again. Just kinda curious. How do the MTI-era SVTs match up with the pre-Magnavox or Magnavox ones? Differences in tone or quality of workmanship? I know there are a ton of recordings with the vintage SVT in them, but are there any that specifically use an '81? Are there any '81 horror stories or the like? WHatever experiences you've had with them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!
  2. The biggest difference are the transformers which were made in Japan for the MTI era svt's. People said that this made a difference in tone versus the 1969 to 1979 vintage svt's. I own two of the vintage ones but have never tried an MTI era so I can't say. They also reduced the B+ voltage (so they might not be as loud) and also eventually went from 12DW7's to 12AX7's.
