It's been raining for what seems like 2 straight weeks and today a reservoir broke and possibly swept up to 7 people out to sea. They've closed the one and only road going up north and they are advising people not to drive anywhere if you don't have to. There are telephone poles in the road, mud slides, flash floods, etc. - they're watching another reservoir to make sure that nobody is in the way of that one if/when it breaks. Scary stuff - and there's a bunch more rain on the way...Here's a little update from the local online paper

They found 1 body but don't expect to find many others. I talked to our friend who's a lieutenant at KPD today... he said they hope to have 'one' lane open by the end of today but it's only going to be for 1 car at a time & that 1 car will be police escorted down the middle of the road as the sides are not safe - they won't allow big trucks that weigh too much either. Poipu and parts of Koloa town were evacuated yesterday as they have the biggest reservoir over there... if that one broke the island would basically be split into 3rds (north shore, east/south, and westside) hehe. People are making 'pharmacy runs' for folks that are trapped up north. Also something happened with Chevron on Oahu and propane hasn't been shipped over in a couple weeks...people are starting to hoard it and they're only letting you fill up one tank at a time right now. Sucks for all the touristas that thought they'd have a nice vacation in paradise. The island is sinking haha, this is crazy.

Wow, that's horrible! My wife and I were thinking about going to Kauai this season, but it didn't happen.

Hope you and yours are ok.

Yeah, are you OK? Just inconvenienced?

We had massive flooding here about ten years ago. It was real scary, my neighbors nearly lost their house, and my wife was dodging huge boulders trying to drive home before all the roads got shut down.

we're fine - thanks...where we are the only thing that can get us is a hurricane. There was a guy that posted on here that lived on the north shore - I forget his handle but his name was Gary I think? He used to have the Fodera logo as his avatar. The only other guy I know of here is 'blackreverend' - where you stay brah?

I heard they were charging tourists $50 a head for helicopter rides from Princeville to Lihue...they're letting them fly Really Low right now - spotted a couple black hawk's cruising around too. Heard that first body was found by the Coast Guard about a mile out at sea  Another was found buried in mud near a river. It's Still raining, this is nuts - the waterfalls are pumping. The other reservoirs must be close to spilling over by now - hopefully nothing else happens. I smell lawsuits and rolling heads.. I mean, even if they are on private property, somebody should be monitoring these things -right?
Mt. Wai'ale'ale isn't the wettest spot on earth for nothing.

    Hey hey,

Yeah....wild week its been. We're all good up here....I'm about 2 miles away from Wailapa, but have MANY friends that live there. Very sad. People were FREAKING out....and actually Heli-USA was charging $200 per person to get the to Lihue airport! NUTS!

Anyways, the one lane is open....but the rain is still coming. Now its everywhere...poor Waimea, Kapahi, Anahola...all by buds are getting flooded out. Did you see that Kapahi was getting more inches of rain that Wai'ale'ale?

    Stay safe, braddah...

    Aloha, Garey

Nice, glad you're alright! Now where's that blackreverend?
We live up in Kapahi and it's STILL raining, haha...It's almost time to build the Ark and gather the animals. $200 - wow that's steep. On a sad note we learned that 2 of the people missing (and presumed dead) we're friends of friends. The girl was pregnant and they were supposed to get married at the Taro Patch next weekend, what a bummer :rollno:

There's a lot of us here on Oahu worrying about you folks over there... All this rain we've been getting the past couple of weeks... wow, laulau! I live in town... Makiki area of Honolulu... while it's rained some here on the southside of Oahu, the windward side, and north shore have been getting pounded... I left my little shoebox high in the sky this morning... gray skies, but no rain... get on the freeway heading Ewa to my warehouse in Halawa Valley... get to Red Hill, and whammo... raindrops falling from the sky the size of sparrows... and I had only driven six miles from home!

...but you gotta know the Pflugers are in some deep kim-chee right now... You think? :rollno:
