Hi Guys how about 7 strings, sometime ago I tried a ken Smith set but the F string was unwrapped, so it was kind of uneven, what I've been using the D guitar string tuned to F, but my bass has a 35" scale so it's kind of scary the strings are barely long enough and a couple of times they broke on the gig, where do you guys get a 7 string set? and wht brands are available?, thanks in advance for all your help.
hey there i use dean markley sr2000's, gauged .135"-.107"-.078"-.055"-.035"-.030"-.027" and i find that they work really well. i get them direct from dean markley (endorsement). there are conklin snakeskin strings commercially available from GC and musician's friend, these are repackaged dean markley sr2000's, the will lee gauge. personally, for me, i find the a, d and g strings to be too heavy in this set, but in a pinch i've used them before. these are also the strings that come standard on the groove tools conklin basses. laballa used to market a 7 string set that was pretty nice - i used to use them, but i like how the markleys are a bit brighter, and they also are taper-core from the d string and up, which allows them to be able to intonated very well, ime. try this site - http://www.juststrings.com/electricbassguitar.html you could buy individual strings at custom gauges and not pay too much money.
D'Addario also makes a custom 7 set for Keith Roscoe but doesn't market them to the general public. Contact John DiMaggio at Bass Alone in San Diego and he can probably order them for you. Great strings. I use 'em on my Roscoe SKB 3007.
john i should just mention here that this is the clincher. should you ever decide to give up your identity and live as a different person, i call dibs on your life. you must have a ridiculously good job as youve said before it pays "nicely" which it obviously does with the supa cool gear you have. youve got endorsement deals. you can somehow wrangle 9999 string basses and i feel like fish out of water on 4 sometimes. your band is pretty damned good. tell me youre married to angelina jolie and i think im gonna pass out
close, here's a pic of my fiance, before she got bangs... and here's a more recent pic... personally i think barbie (that's her name) is a bit better than jolie - in fact i know that she could kick her butt, she's tough
hey John, you are such an amazing FREAK!! We all knew you were ****ing crazy, but it seems like people around you get nuts also! I think we could post a thread like "Show your _asses here", you know what I mean?. By the way, do you use the Dean Markley stainless strings also with your fretless basses? If so, what kind of finish do your fingerboards have?
show your _L_asses, maybe? i use the dean markley sr2000s on my fretlesses too - they all have the "super glue" finish (cyanocrylate, or something like that ) and they hold up really well - my first 7 was a fretless, and it's only required refinishing once in 8 years, and i slap on it alot.
