70's jazz basses, what's different with the pup placement?

I've heard several TB members say this was a more aggressive sounding pup placement, but I have searched and can't find exactly what's different. The reason I ask is I'm building a warmoth with nordie dual coils and I'm trying to figure out which coils to use for single coil mode. Not sure if this should have gone here or in the pickups forum, but since it relates specifically to a type of bass I threw it in here. Thanks in advance for your help. :)

It's amazing how much of a difference 1/4" makes, huh? Pickups don't matter. Placement is everything.
