I'm looking for clips and samples of a jazz with 70s pup placement and maple neck but with an alder body instead of ash because I want to customize that very combo for a carvin sb4000.

I know the geddy lee fits the bill. But any other basses? And generally how does that combo sound?

The plain old 70's RI or vintage should do the trick. I'm sure the specs are out there.

I have (access to) two Warmoth basses J bridge pickups. Both are using the 60's (I think) placement - with the J pickup further from the bridge. I also have (access to) two SB5000's which use the 70's (closer to the bridge) position.

Alder / Rosewood / EMG / wide spacing - Sounds good, missing some bark.
Ash / Maple / Bartolini / wide spacing - Sounds good, missing some bark.
Ash / Maple / J99 / Narrow spacing - Sounds good, a bit more bark.
Alder / Rosewood / J99 / Narrow spacing - This one NAILS the J bass growl / bark.

Great playing. based on that clip, it's hard to tell the difference between the alder/ash tones

I think Ash has a bit more snap to it. Both my Sadowsky and MM Sterling have Ash bodies. Great funk basses!

This is a clip of what my Sadowsky sounds like

The sad sounds great. I assume those are not single coil pickups

Nope....Hum-cancelling. Also the PU's on that bass are not in the 70's position. But it is a maple fretboard.
