I posed this question in Hardware, Setup & Repair, and got no replies, so I'm trying here. Does anyone know whether 1971 Fender Precision Basses came with bridge covers with mutes? (I don't believe so.) I have one lying around and can't remember which bass it came from. Thanks!
My 1974 has both original covers and a strip of foam glued to the bridge cover for a mute. All factory.
I wish I could find my original pup cover and thumbrest! I bought repros. I have the original bridge cover.
My 1972 P had a strip of black neoprene foam glued to bridge cover. It started to disintegrate in 1977 or 1978. It is long gone.
71 P basses and cover mutes I have a '71 Precision bass, bought by me, brand new and it came with covers and a glued-in foam mute. Still have them, but took them off years ago.
