a friend of mine has a 1971 ric model 2001 that he was considering selling & asked me to find out around what it's worth.. it's in good shape & plays well, except the truss rod is seized against a metal plate inside.... i assume it would be a fairly easy fix for a bass tech (but not for me!) any thoughts? thanks!
Never heard of a 2001, nor can I find any reference to one on the Rick sites I know about. Do you mean the old bolt-on model (3001), or the old neck-through single-pickup model (4000), maybe? Mike
It's not worth much of anything. But being the nice guy I am I'll give you $100 for it to help you out.
Are you sure it's a 1971? The serial number would start with the letter J, followed by a second letter which indicates the month then 3 or 4 digits. If your friend has a 71, depending on its condition and how original it is, it could be worth up to $4000.00 Good condition 1972 and early 73's have been selling in the $3200.00 - $3500.00 range. TD
actually i missed this... way above the ser# on the output plate it says UI this makes it a 1981, no? any idea what *this* one is worth?
Yeah, September of 1981. But I guess it's a 4001 and not a 2001? If it is a 4001 and in good condition, then I think something like $1000
Depending on the colour of the finish you might be able to get up to $1500.00 for a 1981 4001. But the bass must not have been modified and it must be in very good condition to get this dollar value. But i'd expect $1200.00 TD
You sure it's not a 4003? Sometime in 80/81 Rickenbacker replaced the old 4001 model with the new 4003, although some 4001 were produced from leftover parts as late as '83. Does it have a 2-piece pickguard like this?
