    Hi-

I'm thinking of building an 8 string bass using a Jazz bass body and a Warmoth neck. Will a standard set of jazz pickups work well? I was thinking a set with blade type magnets would be needed, but I spoke to someone who said he used 1/4 pound Duncans with "excellent" results.

Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks!

8 string as in double course eE aA dD gG? Standard pickups should work just fine, worst case one pole will pickup the octave string and the other will pickup the fundamental.

To remove all doubt, I would just go with a blade type (non-pole piece) pickup. My 2 cents ...

I'm highly opinionated and extremely self-assured
    Any J-style pickup will work fine. Four-pole, eight-pole, blade, doesn't matter. If it works with four-string single-course, it'll work with eight-string double-course.
