I have an 80s Electra bass that my dad bought right out of high school. I’m wanting to try and find out more info about the bass, And especially what kind of wood the bass was made of. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks

  4. There's an Electra/Westone owners club here on TB. That model is the Phoenix X640,the body is ash.

You'll find the catalogue listing partway down the page Tim's link takes you to.

    Thank you!

  7. You're welcome.

Electra/Westone had a massive presence over here in the UK early 80's. I always enjoy seeing folks still playing them.

thats an early X640 that you have, 1981 or 1982....I have a later one (1983) where they switched pickups to P/J from P/P, took away the pickguard, but kept the X640 designation....Although not exact, mine has a setting that gets into Ric ballpark

edit - yours from the 1981 catalog below:

You can can tell your body wood from it's weight and neck from it's color.

Don't create no problem, won't be no problem.
Cool bass. Electra got sued many times for copyright issues in the 70s. But they made respectable equipment for some decent prices. But were from different Japanese manufactures back then.

I had a couple many years ago.

    They were both fun.

Still have the Les Paul that was converted to fretless decades ago. BTW, Gibson did get a legal cease and desist on the LP model.

Shame they closed business back in the day. But now seem to have re-invented themselves.

    That bass is FUNKY!!!

I have an Electra Phoenix guitar (HH layout like a Les Paul) that's probably heavier than at least one of my basses, but I refuse to get rid of it. I've tried dozens of other instruments in recent years that just don't touch it.

...and since I pretty much noodle on it at home, it's easy enough to play it on my lap...

    ...FUNKY!!!...
