I have a Brit built 80's GP11 Mk V 4x10 combo, and powering up for the first time,
the 10's jump along with a pop. If i switch off and switch back on again, the pop & speaker jump is so much less.

As a non techy, i don't know if vintage TE combos had some kind of soft start to prevent speaker jump and pops, and it needs replacing ( capacitors ? ) or whether they don't and something else is causing this

If they dont have some kind of soft start, how hard would it be to fit some kind of protection when powering on ?

    Cheers

This is going way back in my memory, but during that time period most (if not all) Trace power amps did not have any turn-on/off muting so you would hear and see the offset like you are. They chose time constants so everything happened pretty slowly and the noise was not obnoxious (based on competing products at that time).

SWR said the components to prevent that degraded the sound in their amps. That pop though not musical isn't causing more wear and tear than the way you play it......hours on end.....cranked.:)

Billy Sheehan said, "I used to have a loud pop, then my mom divorced him." :)

So, assuming i cannot fit Billy Sheehans mum to get rid of the loud pop, i'm not doing any kind of damage to either amp or speakers ?

Its weird, because it never used to do this

If it didn't used to do this, I would have it looked at by somebody experienced with older Trace gear. I worked for the company that owned the brand about 20 years ago (before my affiliation), but worked on a few pieces over the years for endorsers and high profile players as needed. Sorry I just don't remember any of the details about that model.

yeah horse, i think just for peice of mind, i should run it over to my local tech

he's pretty good too - he managed to completely replace those 2 green mid scoop and GEQ switches,
but keeping the original green outer buttons.
