    Hi all,

How do the 90's era Fender American Standard Jazz 5 strings compare to the modern American 5's.

I know the headstocks went from a "5-inline" to a "4+1" design for the tuners. And of course all the active circuits. I mainly want to know how the necks feel different? I've been told the 90's had thinner feeling necks than the modern 5's. Is the spacing the same too?

thanks for any comments and info!!

Looks like the new ones have a active /passive switch.
I could use that on mine

I had a 92 Jazz Plus 5 and it was the most comfortable bass I ever had. Loved the neck. It was definitely thinner than a modern Fender 5 and I believe the string spacing was tighter but I never measured and don’t have the specs. The B string sound was poor though so I eventually got rid of it.

My Jazz V is from 2004 and has the 5- inline tuner ,active and a tight low B .
I owned a V in the 90' and yes the low B was unusable

Good to know. I'm checking out a mid 90's passive 5 to buy and was wondering what the prevailing opinions are on these? Other reviews I've read have said the 90's were really good for Fender 5 strings.

What "active" are you talking about . . . the Am Std Jazz V is purely passive, the Am Deluxes Jazz V have an active circuit!

Right, I should have been more clear and mentioned only the Amer Std 5's. I just wanted to find out how the 90's models play vs the modern Fender 5's.
