I saw something on TV last night about that. They were discussing on the show that the metal and ribits used in the haul were of very poor quality and that is why the iceberg was able to tear through it.

  2. i would just like to point out that my name is michael and my girlfriend's name is Julie (jewels) and your name is Mike Jewels and that this post is totally pointless

  3. Your girlfriend's last name is Jewels?

    You marry that girl, y'hear?

Yes, the thread is pointless, but someone's got to do it. :p

You've got a good sense of humour, Michael. ;)

    Mike :)

  4. heh actually her first name is Julie, but you get the idea and i was saying my post is pointless, this is actually a rather interesting thread and seems to have more substance then my "i have gas" thread

    :bag:

  5. Opps. My mistake.

    Guess I have a guilty concience. :D

    Mike ;)

  6. The Titanic phenomenon is really interesting.

This is a really cool site I stumbled upon. A 'Priest-in-training' was on the Titanic from Southampton to Cork. While he was on the Titanic he took a bunch of photographs, they're really interesting just for the time period, and it's even more interesting once you realize these were taken on the Titanic.

There's a picture of the Anchor being raised for the last time, oddly enough, it's taken from right around the same point that the iceberg collided with the hull.

This guy lived a very full life.

  7. Watch out...here comes Bassmonkee with a benign comment to be taken wrongly... ;)

Indeed. There's something about that time period that I find very fascinating.

A lot of us do. I wonder if there are historic intervals that people just feel a certain (insert whatever here).

Sixty years ago our US Marines were just finishing the battle for the island of Iwo Jima. The most costly marine battle of WWII. Of the 350 Medal of Honor recipients 27 where awarded for action Iwo Jima.

Get and read Iwo Jima by Bill Thomas if you don't believe
the Michigan madman. Incredible book about a really
    hairy battle.

Back to the Titanic, I like that thing they did in the
    car the best
