Hello all! Up for SALE ONLY is my 1997 Warwick Thumb BO 5. This hybrid ovangkol/wenge beast packs a serious punch and has mojo to back up its 23 year history. It’s been played and loved, and now it’s time to pass it on to someone else within the TB universe. It snarls, it growls, it burps - can also mellow out to a smooth, glassy tone using the powerful MEC EQ. No matter what, the signature Thumb tone is present.

Has the famous brass Just-A-Nut I and bell brass frets with very little wear. Notes ring out true and clear with no buzz. Truss rod has lots of room to turn in both directions with minimal resistance.

Aesthetics wise, there are multiple dings/marks/scratches on this bass (which add to the overall player’s mojo IMO), but nothing ridiculous requiring repairs. Well-loved for many years! See pics for dings. I have waxed the entire bass multiple times since purchasing - the grain is outstanding and unique. Will include official Warwick beeswax.

Absolutely beautiful wenge neck & fretboard on this specimen. One of the fastest necks I have ever played, aided by the unique simultaneously smooth/coarse wenge grain. You really have to play it to know the characteristics, but it fits SO comfortably. It brings out more complex lines naturally, whether you’re tapping/slapping/etc.

The monstrous tone partially comes from the heavy weight of this bass - roughly 11.3 lbs on my scale. A wide strap helps to balance it with the recessed Dunlop strap locks.

Bass is located in NYC. Will hand deliver anywhere in NYC (free of charge), or securely ship in a padded Roadunner gigbag and heavily padded box anywhere within the lower 48 (at buyer’s expense).

Selling this bass for $1300 firm. Thanks for your interest.

Thank you! Are you sure? I thought Ovangkol is generally darker and contains less varied colors/grain variations. This is from right before the transition period (post-1998) - open to the prospect, just want to be accurate! Thanks for the input.

Ovangkol has more directional grain to it like your bass.....as far as color it depends on the slab they use as well as which stain/oil.

Yep. Beautiful bass. W Thumbs are my favorite by far. And yes definitely Ovangkol. The Ovangkol one are way better sounding and more beautiful. Nice.

Bump and price drop to $1375. Bonus pic of John Longstreth (drummer from Origin, Hate Eternal, Dying Fetus and more) playing this exact bass at rehearsal.
