I've been looking for inexpensive pre that I could plug my Sansamp DI into to boost its output voltage and go directly into a power amp. I don’t want to alter the Sansamp. I found this the other day at the Guitar Center. It’s got a 12ax7 in it and retails for only $99. Seems like it might be a good solution.

I saw that one in Musicians Friend and was thinking the same thing about it. If you pick it up, definitely let us know what you think. I'd be interested to see if it warms your sound up pretty well, or strengthens it like you're looking for it to.

The specs sure make it look like the right level. I would also be interested in hearing how it sounds with a Sansamp to drive a power amp.

the ART Tube MP is part of my live rig, and i love the way it sounds. it has all the features of the item you're considering, and it's in the price range. it's at least worth a look because it's comparable and it may be better for your application. they make several versions, the Tube MP, which I use, it's just like this one you're looking at as far as specs and features go...and then there's the Tube MP OPL (output protection limiting), the Tube MP Studio...etc.
  5. i used a tube MP for a bit. it sounds HUGE! it can get pretty gritty OD when used right. I got rid of it cuz i was streamlining my setup, so it went away - but only cuz i had a bad bout of GAS. Ihighy recommend one for use as a thickening agent or a mild OD.
  6. For anyone in Toronto, Canada the ART Tube MP is on sale at Long and Mcquade for $130 (<$90 US).
We've used the dual rack version of it in the studio for a while, seems quite nice.
