A 1984 Rickenbacker 4001?!? Is this fake?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by him666, Sep 14, 2005.

  1. I always wanted a new jetglo Rickenbacker 4003, but this 4001 is for sale in Holland and i a little less expensive than the 4003. The seller says this 4001 is from '84. But http://www.rickresource.com says they stopped with the 4001 in '83! So how is this possible? I have a lot of pics. What are your thoughts on this. Are the Rics from '84 any good?

BTW: Why are there never any Rickenbackers for sale in the For Sale Forum at TB? :) I'm interested in buying one :)

  2. That's a genuine Rick. There was no set date that the 4001 ceased production. I'm sure there were a few stragglers into 1984 and later.

looks genuine to me.. all the innards look very similar to the 4003 I used to have... if it was a fake, i'd expect all kinds of different stuff
  4. I believe its real. That 83 date i believe is when they stopped taking orders for 4001's. But they still had to make all that was on order.
Kinda like the deal with my 86' Silver 4003. They were supposed to be stopped in 85 i believe...butthe date clearly indicates 86.

    Greatings from the North,
That ain't a fake. One of the Ric's I owned back in the day was its twin. That 4001 is the real deal.
