A 'blown amp' effect?

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Against Will, Sep 11, 2005.

  1. Is there an effect that emulates the sound of playing through a busted amp?

Long story, short, I busted a friend's cheap head and it was creating a pretty cool effect. Distorted, with maybe a little chorus or flange, no real attack the notes just sort of swelled out of the speakers and then tremeloed for a bit. It was rather quiet, but it sounded very cool. I was just curious as to whether I could recreate this effect without risking a small electrical fire.

  3. great!
Just looked a bit through the Effector 13 website and found other very interesting pedals! Never heard of effector 13..
Can you tell me some other, rather unknown brands that make such exotic effects?!?
I only know the usual ones that everybody knows... EHX, Fulltone, Boss,MXR and so on...

    no worries :)
  7. i know EXACTLY what you need for this: ZVex Woolly Mammoth. It has a 'Pinch' control which as you crank up, makes it sound more like a busted AM radio than a hi-fi bass amp ;)

i could never find a use for it, but sounds like that's what you want

  12. The No-Fi sounds like the 2 inch speaker in a cheap AM radio being overdriven to it's limits.

The Krackle Fuzz sounds like a blown speaker.

It should be noted that E13 boxes are intended for noise......don't expect alot of "musical" flexibility with them. I've found them to be useful to add an interesting flavor to an intro or bridge, and as a layer in a recording....but not as a main effect for the duration of a song.

None of those are "lesser known" on the Effects forum. Maybe elsewhere.

I was just answering to Terrorstorm who wanted to know. He only said he knew Boss, EHX, Digiteck, MXr , Fulltone and that's about it.
