A Fender Jazz or not a Fender Jazz...?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Rockin John, May 30, 2001.

  1. Some while ago I posted asking for help with how to decide whether a given Fender being offered for sale was a GENUINE Fender or some cheap clone dressed up to look like an F. I had some replies and I'm grateful.

Armed with that info I responded to a private add for a particular type, style and place of manufacture of Fender bass.

The phone conversation went something like this:

"And it is a genuine Fender, made in X?"

    "Yeh."

    "Bog standard and not modified?"

"Well....I had the body respyayed and we put a new metal control panel on. Then the guy suggested it'd be better with an aged look. So we aged the neck then put on a new Fender logo to coinside with that era....."

I politely declined and put down the phone.

Now, this bass may well have been a genuine Fender. But it just goes to show that you can't be too careful.
