Last week my wife asked me if I would go with her to see Phil Collins play in Zürich on Tuesday. Not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't let my wife go to a show on her own (or worse yet, let her miss it because she didn't want to go alone), so I said "Of course I'll go with you", and I got the tickets. That was about a week ago. I didn't realize until 2min. ago that Leland Sklar is touring with Phil Collins. . There you go. Good Karma for FerK !!!
We got to see Lee as part of The Troubadours tour, The Section playing along with Carole King & James Taylor! Gawd! Was that a decade ago?!! The Section, with friends...
Collins ALWAYS has a stellar band. And, by the way, I hope has has two sets of drums on stage when the show starts. That means Phill will be playing drums some. He's a ridiculously underrated drummer. The man can play.
I don't think he can play. He's got some health problems, and he's been touring with a chair to sit on during some parts of the show: Which is a shame on various levels: it sucks for him, big time. I hope he gets better ASAP. It sucks quite a bit for the audience, as he's (in my opinion) a WAY BETTER drummer and musician in general than he is a singer.
Phil did not play the drums, and he barely stood up from his chair. But his singing was as good as ever, and he's a true showman. He put out an excellent show. Mr. Sklar, as expected, did not come close to disappointing. Tonight he played the whole show with his green signature Dingwall 5-string.
I still regret not going to see Alabama when I was invited by a pretty young lass with questionable morals & a penchant for getting high. I was too Heavy Metal for that, how silly!
It was outdoors (in the Football Club Zürich stadium). Judging by the known capacity the venue (between 30K and 90K people), I guess there were some 30K+ people there. It's a REALLY nice outdoors venue, with a covered seating area (important in rainy Switzerland) and astroturf.
