As some of you may know I've been complaining about my Ric lately. Been toying with trading it away. Finally decieded to just pull the trigger and make an offer. Upon a quick inspection as to not misrepresent my gear...I FIND THIS. Just took the wind out of the old sails. I've already contacted Rickenbacker and the members of the Rickenbacker club. It's used so..warranty won't be happening. It's kept in a climate controlled area. Well maintained as all instruments are. Just wanted to vent to the masses
Fixable. A little tricky on a finished bass but a good luthier should be able to make that almost undetectable.
A bass I was looking to get rid off, not dump money into. And I guess to some degree I didn't expect a Rickenbacker to just...come undone like that.
I have a few jazz bass necks that have binding that have held up to wild abuse and misuse. Extreme hot and cold. Years and years of punk shows. But I will have to say....I'll leave the binding for the next guy from now on.
It’s fixable but I’m trying to understand how that could happen and I’m thinking temp or probably humidity changes and perhaps age all combined.
In general, Rickenbacker breaks my heart. They are serious great looking basses that have a distinct sound, but so many people complain about QC from them that I don't think i would ever be comfortable paying the price they command. Add that to their unwillingness to address their known design flaws - like their bridges - and the complaints I hear about their customer service, and I'm not a buyer. Too bad, because I'd really love to buy one with confidence that something like this wouldn't happen.
In curious to see what they have to say. I understand they might not be willing to cover it, even though I see it as a manufacturer flaw. But I expect them to atleast offer to let me send it in an pay to have then fix it to factory spec
