I recently received a Darkglass Vintage Ultra and since its not an inexpensive pedal, I was curious to open it up and check out the components.

What I found, I assume, is a message from Doug Castro to those who might want to potentially copy his circuitry.

mod edit: sorry, had to remove due to profanity. Feel free to reupload if you can edit the image. Thank you

Gee I wonder who that’s meant for? :)

There’s always a new pedal copier coming down the Pike.

  3. There's a pretty neat VMT DIY kit you can buy. I've been meaning to put one together, it would be interesting to mess around with components to see what you can come up with.

I don't think anyone would ever clone the Ultra simply because of the complexity of the circuit. Even if you cloned it you'd have to charge near as much as the original, not to mention doing that many parts through-hole would be nuts. The Pike clones were only possible because that dude had access to the PCB's and build sheets directly from Darkglass.

Peeps who want to copy someone’s circuit, should turn a new leaf and do something new...

All of our products have hidden mottos and easter eggs that reflect my midnset at the time of launch.

Some are more uplifting and positive than the one in the Ultra series (which were designed at the time the aforementioned fiasco happened).

    For example this one :).

EDIT: Actually pedals amps designed from the OPs original message (B7KU and Vintage Ultra) onward.

The cat that lived at our rehearsal space many bands ago left a few "treats" :poop: in our guitarist's open back guitar amp once. Thank goodness my cabs were sealed and the ports were behind the grill.

This is why Darkglass is Darkglass. I mean, I have an EHX-exclusive board... except for Darkglass.

  19. Just the way that you and your team have built your company and products up from nothing to where you are now is amazing.

A conversation about bass gear nowadays will always touch on Darkglass, just as it does ampeg, tech21 or Mesa etc.

And you find time to have a positive and practical presence here.

    Kudos.
