So I have a silly question to ask, my guitar (a Peavey Millenium 4 AC BXP) has 18v pickups, but the battery compartment only has a single 9v battery. Wouldn't there need to be 2 9v batteries to supply 18 volts? I probably wouldn't have asked, but while I was browsing some pictures of other people's Peavey Milleniums, I noticed some of them have 2 9v batteries, such as this one, am I just crazy or should my guitar be fitted with 2 9v batteries? Cheers.
Well, the easiest way to generate 18V is with a pair of 9V batteries, but with some electronics, you can step the voltage up to 18V (EE types - help me here - I think you'd need a mini switching PS?).
Are you sure there isn't 2 batteries in there? I had a 5 string some years ago and while the box had a single cover, it was a little wider than normal and had 2 batteries in there.
Pretty sure it only has 1 battery, pic for reference: http://imgur.com/SOOBKpv Like I mentioned in the first post, I wouldn't have made a thread but I did see a picture of a bxp 4 ac with 2 batteries, I also found the wiring loom with pickups for sale and that had 2 batteries as well, but maybe I'm being a bit paranoid. What probably isn't helping is that it's my first instrument, and the amp I bought for it had the glass fuse blow after a mere 20 minutes, the volume didn't even go past 4!
Hmmm.....I wonder if they changed it to a 9v system. That seems odd if it is in fact an 18v system. Did you buy from a store or online? I think I'd be contacting Peavey.
how do you know it has "18V pickups"? i see in that picture that the pickups are indeed themselves active (red wires alongside the regular shielded wires, all going to the battery + with the peamp).
