Hey, everyone! It's my first post here at the Talk Bass forums. I've lurked forever, and lots of your guys posts have helped me out a ton! Here's the down low: I'm going to be starting a job at KFC here in the coming weeks, and i'm going to create a fund to buy bass stuff. I plan on buying an Ampeg 610HLF, a SansAmp VT Bass and an Ampeg SVT450H head. I also plan on modding my MIM Fender Jazz Bass in some way, just to make it sound better. Before posting your responses to the following questions, I figured I should let you know the type of tone i'm looking for. I'm looking for something with really good low end, clear highs, and a bit of a grind/growl. I play bass in a 3-piece indie rock band, so I need something that can hold my own and stand out, but still keep the foundation. This is a really long post.. but here are my questions! Thanks so much in advance, guys! Feels great to say that i'm finally a TBer 1. See the amp forum! 2. See the amp forum! 3. What mods could I make to my bass to make it the best as possible while still keeping the price range around $200 dollars? I really want to give it a Leo Quan BadAss Bridge II. However, I don't know anything about 'pre-grooved' saddles or what not. 4. I have a huge paint chip missing from my bass, mostly just me being as stupid as can be when I was younger. (I'm 17 now, i've had the bass since I was about 13.) Along with all of the other dings and scratches on the body, could I just sand them all out to give my bass a nice, vintage, 'relic'd' looking style? Thanks once again! -Andy
Why would you steer clear of Ampeg? I'd just like to know so that I don't make a foolish mistake... And you're right! I'm sorry. I should take my first 2 questions and put them in the amp forum. It'll be fixed in a second =)
First two in the Amps section, new pups/pots will definitely be your first step to victory. Scratches = Mojo, and if you want a relic, talk to Brett (IbanezCollector) and don't get too far since your bass is most likely finished with thick poly instead of thin nitro that vintage ones were.
