I have never vocalized this, but I have felt it my entire life and known it for as long as I can remember. ALL my inspirations for playing bass were British, and I am so grateful for their contribution to the world that oftentimes I feel like draping a Union Jack flag over my amp. But I’m as American as they come, so I haven’t yet.

Thank you to Paul McCartney, John Entwhistle, John Paul Jones, Roger Glover, Dee Murray, John Deacon, Lemmy, Adam Clayton, John McVie, Glenn Cornick, Roger Waters, Chris Squire, Pino Palladino, Cliff Williams, Bill Wyman, Chris Squire, Geezer Butler, and Jack Bruce!

I might have even missed a couple. It’s hard to look at a list like that and think it isn’t 100% complete!

P.S. At the risk of sounding like I’m discriminating, are there any good bassists out there that aren’t English? (I’m kidding).
  2. I like the intro to the theme song of “Are You Being Served?” Any idea who played it?

Yes, a troll who lives under a bridge, who pops out with half witted cynicism when someone says something encouraging and wholesome.

Yeah, you missed several…Jet Harris, Chas Chandler, Paul Samwell-Smith, John Cale, Greg Lake, John Wetton, Richard Sinclair, Hugh Hopper, Mike Howlett, Ron Wood, John Gustafson, Brian Turrington, Ace Kefford, Percy Jones, Mick Karn, Colin Moulding, Barry Adamson, JJ Burnel, Dave Allen, Herbie Flowers, Peter Hook, Simon Gallup, Andy Rourke…I’m sure there’s others that I’ve overlooked, but these are the ones who have impacted me.
BTW, you mentioned Squire twice, and Adam Clayton is Irish, Jack Bruce is Scottish(I fudged a bit as Cale is Welsh… it’s a big deal over there).

    BTW, you mentioned Squire twice

That’s because Squire has the shredding chops of two bassists playing at the same time.

Well, all those guys are great players, they were all inspired by American Blues musician, Willie Dixon,Calvin "Fuzz" Jones, other genres like Motown, James Jamerson. Jack Bruce is Scottish not to be that person :). Good list love Chris Squire and Bruce the most of them.
  12. Passinwind

    Passinwind I know nothing.

    All of them? ;)

And of course I'm kidding too, there are at least a few dozen Brits and other UK players who were huge influences at one time or another.
