Looks cool. I've always had a soft spot for scroll headstocks. Wonder if it has neck dive though? It seems to be built alot better that alot of the other violin basses I've seen. The only issue for me is---there's nowhere to rest my thumb.

Yeah ... what are ya getting ... I have one on order too but it will take some 4 months to get it built.

:smug: ... Koa wood top, on Mahagony with a Wenge neck and Dark Star pickup up near the neck like a Gibson EB-1

Looks like a real Hofner bridge on it. I really like that bass but I'd never buy it. I've gotten used to the sound of a bridge pickup on my Turser. The sound of the neck pickup by itself is great, but the bridge pickup gives it a little edge. Plus it's a lot more than a Turser.

Inspired by the Gibson EB-1 that Felix Pappalardi used with Mountain ( and Jack Bruce at the Cream reunion ) I decided I wanted a more modern interpretation of that instrument. The original was a short scale bass made of Mahogany with a set neck and large single coil at the neck. We decided to use Mahagony as a back and a Koa top with a Wenge divider strip, and a matching Wenge neck. The neck will be a bolt on 34" scale J taper to add "attack". The Dark Star pickup will be very similar to the 53 Gibson design ... it will also have strings through the body via a Hipshot bridge with mini Hipshot tuners, Oh and a slight cutaway.

Here is a thumb of the top wood ...

Don't forget the piezo in the bridge and the active electronics.

I bet this bass sounds amazing with the right buffer....

No doubt. I noticed the batter y box on the back and said "dang!"
I think I'd really like that.
I had a Univox hollwobody violin with the pup way up there like that one, and it was deep and bright at the same time, very nice...

I was looking at that too and seriously thinking about it.
It reminds me of one that I saw a looong time ago that partially led to me playing bass.
It was an Aria solid body violin bass in dark green with the same headstock as this one.The band needed a bass player and just fell in love with this bass. I got the money from mom went to the store and it was gone... I used the $325 to buy a used Rick 4001 (how times have changed!) and have played bass ever since.

MM, that's going to make a great addition to your collection.

Post pictures again, once the auction closes and it arrives in your hands.

    Heh. Sorry!

I just got word this week from Sheldon & Co. that the final payment on my Z1/Voodoo is within sight (ie, they're gonna start working on it soon).

In honour of you, though some of the finish will be trans-green.
