It looks like I have to route for swimming pools, not neck pockets. These are the specs: 34" scale 19mm spacing at bridge, 80mm nut 24 frets solid Wengé body Zebrawood neck Cocobolo fingerboard custom humbucker in the sweetspot probably tuned B-Bb or F#-F.
Glad you guys like it! I'd take it but I'll probably end up selling it with its 10 strings brother. I'll just keep it for all August since I have a couple of small fairs where these beasts could be show stoppers
If you can play a sixer then you can play an 8er... and the high F sounds really sweet for slapping, paradiddles and chords. For a fretless with such a wide fingerboard there are more problems as you really must be able to play in tune without looking at the fingerboard too much... the fingerboard width can make you think your finger is on the dot while it's not.
80mm for the 8 strings and 90mm for the 10 but the 8 has 19mm spacing at the bridge (like a Jazz bass) while the 10 has 16mm (more or less like Ibanez sixers).
CTMullins: Hei, don't ask... I only build them. They aren't as hard as you can think... once you get used to the number of strings it can really widen your note choice and your melody attitude.
Very nice work, that 10 is a beauty ..... I don't spend much time in this Luthiers forum, so I'm not sure if you are building for the enjoyment of it only, or selling these basses. Custom orders a possibility?
Don't know... I have pretty large hands but I'm sure it can be easily played by smaller players without much effort since the spacing is tight.
