ABBA Earworms... HELP!

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Old Garage-Bander, Nov 28, 2018.

  1. Mrs. Garage Bander wanted to rent the Mama Mia movie sequel Here We Go Again, so we did and we watched it on Friday. Then all Saturday and Sunday I had Fernando stuck in my head. Come Monday it had switched to Dancing Queen, argh! On Tuesday morning I Googled "Earworm" and came up with results from a study done at Durham University in the UK. (How do you get a job like that?) I quickly scanned the article. Music : How to get rid of an earworm - Durham University

The recommendations for getting rid of them, are:
    1. Play the song all the way through.
    2. Play a different type of song. God Save the Queen being the number one Earworm killer.
    3. Let it be. Just try to let it resolve itself.

I figure it was hearing the songs that started this to begin with so I dismissed #1.

Found a You Tube of God Save the Queen and played it a couple of times.
It seemed to help for a while but then when the Earworm came back it was God Save the Dancing Queen. :bored:

I then tried humming to myself Let it Be, and later realized that wasn't what they said to do.
(I have only scanned the article.) :wacky:

So I tried doing other things to occupy my brain last night and it all seemed OK.
Then this morning while getting ready for work Take a Chance On Me popped in. AAARHG!

HELP ME. What do I do to get these things out of my head? I keep trying GStQ but it comes out
    My country tis of thee
    Yadda yadda liberty
    God save the Queen

Us Yanks took GStQ from the Brits and changed the words. Maybe to piss off the Redcoats, IDK.
But I kept mashing both versions.
I wonder if someone with a sense of musical humor changed the words?
A sort of 18th century Weird Al YANKovich, if you will.

Any ideas what to do? Heavy Rock? Is there a best Metal for Earworms?
Someone please help. I'm just across the street from crazy as it is.

In fairness, there's a lot worse songs than ABBA's out there.
I've recently been playing along very happily to a playlist of their stuff, and there's some great music there.

  8. I had to play Hot Head in a previous band. Not one of my favorites.

  9. Maybe THIS will clear out the earworm: The Royal Dutch Guards' Band, blowing on a hot chart of 'Dancing Queen'. ABBA is a guilty pleasure, but I always get a big lift from these guys, what a hoot !

THIS is the "God Save The Queen" you need to listen to, otherwise there's no future for you...

  12. I agree. I don't dislike ABBA, I just couldn't get them out of my head after the movie.
Bein' it was kind of the disco era, their stuff is much preferred vs most of what was their.

  15. OK! That might be a good one for the play it through option.
Kind of takes me back to HS Marching Band Daze.

  16. That should do it. Yeah! I was just listening to the wrong version. Thanks.
