I'm seeking some clarification from those with more knowledge than I have as I'm not convinved I'm quite getting this right...if I were to put a buffered splitter/ABY box at the front of my pedal board, could I then run one line thru my current pedal chain and another clean line (around my chain) straight into my boss looper pedal at the end of the chain (which has stereo inputs) and then one line out into my amp? Essentially creating a clean blend. Would this help maintain the bottom end? Any inexpensive aby pedal recommendations? Thanks in advance! Cheers! Current setup is...wireless->tuner->envelope->compressor->octave->fuzz->chorus->looper
Typically you’ll want a way to adjust the levels of the two branches when you recombine them. Phase issues between the two signal chains can cause trouble too, so a way to adjust phase of each signal chain is also helpful. Finding an affordable parallel loop blender with those features might be a better way to go.
Thanks for the reply! Any recommendations? I guess I need to learn/clarify the differences between a 'buffered splitter' an 'ABY box' and a parallel loop blender' Cheers!
Damnation Audio makes a great Loop Blender. Old Blood Noise Endeavors, Electro-Harmonix, One Control, Saturnworks, and Umbrella all make good loop blenders with varying numbers of loops and features too.
A bit more research and it looks like the Boss LS-2 line selector might be just what I'm after. Pretty positive reviews out there but any other feedback on these is appreciated. Cheers!
If you have a pedal in your current effects that flips the phase you will end up with a hollow tone when both are engaged with the LS-2. If you can purchase at a place where it's easy to return, then it may be worth a shot to try it out.
Only slightly more expensive than the LS2 is the EHX Switchblade Pro, and it does a LOT more (2 loops + a dedicated clean blend, can run each loop in parallel or series A->B or B->A with the clean blend.) In addition, it has the 4 loop jacks on the top instead of how the Boss has them all jammed together on the sides. It has an internal phase switch if needed. Ive run dozens of pedals thru each loop in various combinations and never once had to use it. Trust me... Skip the LS2, and start here.
