    Steve,

What did you think of the AccuGroove cabinets?

I think they are a fine addition to the world of bass cabs - I've met quite a few players who get frustrated at the huge full range sound they get from the PA and not being able to get that from their bass rig. with the Accugroove that's possible - they are very maleable speakers, with all the adjustment options that they have for dialling in more of the mid and high range speakers, and are well constructed (and nice people to!)

As regards my own sound, the Ashdown stuff is a huge part of my sound, and when I ran through the Accugroove stuff, the full range made my bass sound more trebly than I like, but that's because my whole set up comes as a package - my bass, my processor and my amp, and if you change any of that, I'm slightly out of my element. When Mark switched the high speakers off, it was much closer to my kind of tone, with just the 2x8 on his little cab, maybe cos I'd been playing through the Ashdown 4x8 for the whole tour and loving the sound of those 8s...

But I would encourage anyone looking for that full range hi-fi tone to check out the Accugroove stuff - they seem to have hit on a sound and a style that a lot of the bigger name hifi bass companies have missed....

    cheers

    Hiya Steve;
You recommended I go check out AccuGroove at NAMM, sying you felt their small cabs would give me the clarity and pressence I was seeking for my acoustic/electric basses....and you were SOOOO
right! I tried 'em and fell for the quality and tone right off. And they were very nice folks, indeed.
I liked them so much...I bought one of their Tri 208's (the 2x8 plus mid and high drivers), and love it!
Real remarkable stuff, there. I will concur with Steve....check out these cabs. They are for real.

Thanks a lot guys! I didn't get to go to NAMM, but I am on the hunt for better gear. I am thinking Genz-Benz, but someone recommended i look at these, so I think I will.........when they have something to look at!

Max, you liked the Tri 208? I am kind of thinking Whappo jr. I like a Marcus/nathan kind of sound, but I drive a Ford Escort wagon, and I have bad knees and back.

I am currently using (don't laugh) a crate head, but will be upgrading to GK 1001rb, or going with a preamp/amp combo, like QSC or Mackie.

    opinions? Talk among yourselves!

    Max,

that's great - it is indeed the ideal cab for you! I'm really looking forward to hearing you play through that, I think it'll bring the best out of your acoustic basses... BTW - I'm really enjoying the CD, good stuff, well done - you should be proud of it. And anyone else reading this, check out Max's debut CD (see front page of talkbass for more info) - are there any sound clips on the net? have you got an MP3.com page set up?

    cheers

Thank you for the kind words, Steve. I am proud of the CD, and thankful for all TB is doing to help (as well as all of you who are e-mailing me with orders for it!) I am working on my website, and have ":joined" Mp3.com, but, most likely due to my limited capacity to understand all things web-based, have been unable to really navigate their site to upload any of my tunes. When I get some time I will figure out my way around their and get something up for all to hear.
Oh...yes you were absolutely right about the AccuGroove cabs. Really, a perfit fit for me. Thanks Steve!

Greetings fellow bass players! I just found this site & of course this thread. I want to invite you to ask any questions, either on this board or by directly emailing me. Although I'm unbearably busy, I'll do my best to respond in a timely manor.

Let me add this one statement. These cabinets were birthed out of my personal frustration as a bass player since 1970. Although we have addressed some huge issues left unanswered by other manufacturers, we by no means have "Arrived."

There are many good cabinets & companies out there. They are doing a fine job & many players like what they are using. We are not looking at these players, but the ones that are still unsatisfied after years of experimentation. There's room for everyone & we will have our own little area of expertise.

We are not better than anyone else, we're just addressing different issues.

    Humbly,
    Mark
