Just come across pics of the new AC Guitars bolt-on model in the TB Builder Showcase. It's called The Graft.

At today's US:UK exchange £700 is about $1150, quite a deal for a boutique bass, albeit I understand the idea of the bass is to limit customization and to make a bass that's accessible to more players.

I know this sounds a bit like an promo, but I've only recently discovered AC Guitars and become an instant fan and I expect a lot of folks will probably miss this new bass in the builder's showcase, which if you're like me I forget to visit regularly.

This one is straight onto my GAS list!

This Graft has great lines IMHO, similar to the Harlot.

honestly, it looks like one of those cheap asian ebay basses.

Don't get me wrong, It probably plays great. But IMO the bass looks cheap.

Hey, if we all agreed the World would be a boring place and in the same way you can look at a MIA Jazz and see similarities with a SX, doesn't make either a bad bass!

I look at the Graft and I see similarities with a Hen-bev. I think it is the flowing shape particularly from the portrait shot.

My post came off a little more harsh than I intended, I was just posting my first impression.

First impression are valid so don't worry.

I've maybe had a little more exposure to ACG's product so the sight of a bass (and IMHO a good looking one at that!) around $1100 is a big positive.

Of course a review would help here!

    Ouch.

To be honest this new venture has met with mostly negative comments on several forums so I will be finishing the basses I have started but will not be starting anymore until I see if there is any type of market for them.

I'd rock a 2 pickup version! Maybe put a top on it and it would look killer!

  10. Imo, and take it for what it's worth (not very much), the 'cheap' look is because of the black paint.

+1 Just plain-looking finish on the body. Otherwise, very cool.

  12. Wow...that does nothing for me in the looks department.

Smart idea. No doubt the bass kicks azz performance-wise, but, at least visually, to quote a line from Robert Fripp's Exposure album:

"It has none of the qualities of your work that I admire."

Ben Lesser may well have a point re: black paint. IMHO the thing that makes ACG basses so drool-worthy has been the wood. (To that end, the photo showing the back of the neck is my favorite!)

Finish it in clear poly -- and what the heck, change the upper bout to a single cut instead of that Warwick Dolphin-esque boner thing -- and it'd be 100% more attractive.

But please, consider these criticisms simply more encouragement to produce an affordable ACG bass!

I'd want to pick it up & play it. It looks solid enough.

I think the main issue aesthetically is the black paint, and the skinny upper horn. I looked at some of your other basses in another thread and I really liked most of them.

I think the budget line is a good idea, I just think that it would have a little more mass appeal if the designs resembled your other basses.

The Graft line of bass were going to be all of my double cut models the Harlot Recurve and Finn. Just that the first bass finished was the Harlot.
