I have only ever seem 1 Wayne Jones cab in a store. They're no-where to be seen her in Austr. Even the current Australian endorsee first heard of the cabs while flicking through an American magazine.

The problem Acme will face here is that Australians are slow to welcome new brands. Venue Music started importing Bag End and NO-ONE bought any. Epifani didn't take off here either. Eden did well, but it took years. Even the localy made brands face a similar problem.

I hope Acme do well and I hope they are aware of the challenge ahead.

    Hi

Its good to see the arrival of Acme in Australia is already getting some attention. The official launch is Monday, 18 August. If you email me or leave your details at the web site (www.acmebass.com.au) you'll get a free invite to the launch party. There are some great players lined up to demo the speakers - it should be a good night.

Regarding the long slog ahead....hopefully a low overhead direct to end user business model will enable us to hang in while the brand is esablished here. This will also allow us to keep the prices more than competitive with other fully imported speakers.

I aim to have a number of high end bass related agencies, addressing all parts of the signal chain. These are products which couldn't justify traditional retail distribution because of their price and niche market - but which might be viable on a direct to user model.

    Regards

Curiosity gets the better of me yet again........

I hope it's ok to ask this in public - When and where is the launch party? I'd like to check my diary before I take up a spot. And who are the players you've got lined up?

7PM at a venue yet to be confirmed - in inner or east Sydney. Monday night was chosen as its usually the quietest night.

The technical demo will be by Christian Young, formerly one of NZ's first call bassists, recently relocated to Oz while studying at the Con. He is a great player and a nice guy.

Also playing (via Acme speakers, of course) will be the Jacki Orszaczky Trio, comprising Jacki on picolo bass, David Symes on bass and Hamish Stuart on Drums. You gotta love a trio with two bassists!

Good call making it a Monday. Count me in (or is it too early for that?)

If that's the Christian I think it is, he played for Disco Montego at the Aria Awards? If so, he the guy who replaced me when I left a Sydney funk covers band.

Jacki has been doing a regular Tuesday night gig at the Rose & Crown and the Sydney TB'ers have been talking about going to have a look. Does this mean he'll ditch that awful Leslie rotary thing he's been known to use? Mind you I haven't seen him in several years.

    hey dave,

i highly doubt, i'll be able to make it all the way from NYC, but out of curiousity, what sort of amps are you going to demo the cabs with?

Can't make the trip from NYC? I am disappointed with your lack of dedication to the cause of promulgating great bass gear. ;)

Haven't really decided yet on amp.s - the players are checking out the speakers in the weeks leading up to the launch. As these guys are all gigging bassists, hopefully their gear will be adequate - and that will make for a good "real world" demo. If not, I'll hire in gear.

    no worries,

been an Acme B2 2x10 user for a little over a year now. ;)

but may i suggest a nice Aguilar DB680? that extra tone shaping and the sweetness of the Acme's make for a potent combo.

another idea is a nice Eden head of whatever wattage. i used a WT400 with mine, and they complemented each other wonderfully. the growly, , woolly, yet edgie nature of the Eden added a nice punch to the colorless Acme.
