Acoustic Bass, should I defret it?

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by Bassline_Delux, Jul 19, 2004.

  1. I have an electro-acoustic bass and I was thinking about defretting it(having it defretted). Anyone think it would be a bad idea? Its a Channel 4-String. I have flatwounds on it so I was thinkign defrettign would make it really nice.

  2. I defretted my Hohner TWP600B nearly 10 years ago and I love its tone.
strung with flats (Rotosound Jazz 35-95) with a high action it sounds a lot like an upright bass.

  3. I think it would be great.

Well just for the record. I fretted my 25 years old EKO acoustic fretless bassguitar about 10 years ago and I have found much more use for the bass now that it's fretted. I use it all the time as the main bass in my second band.
Of course, if you own several acoustic basses it could probably be a good idea to make one fretless but if you dont, I really don't see the point...

  5. I guess it depends on whether you have a lot of use for a fretless.
