On my E string there is a lot of tension and buzz whenever I release/let go of a note (epecially around the low G). I thought tightening the truss rod might help, but it hasn't. I'm still sort of new when it comes to fixing things myself, can anyone help me!

Is the E string larger than a standard gauge string? That would cause higher tension.

Also it could cause the string to sit a little high in the nut slot if the slot isn't wide enough.
That would make playing the lower notes difficult.

Try raising the E saddle, and adding relief to the neck.

To add relief would I loosen the truss rod?

Yes loosen. Give it an eighth of a turn or less and see.

I would very strongly suggest that you read the stickie on setup, before you proceed further.
