Active Bass Pre-amp problems

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Leadbass004, Jun 4, 2014.

  1. hey guys. i just bought a used Sterling Ray34. it sounds like there is a problem in the electronics somewhere. it seems the tone controls don't make any tonal changes like they should. i have volume still. i thought that if the battery was losing juice that the volume would cut out as well. i changed the battery anyways and the tone controls still don't change any tone.
    any ideas?
  2. Open her up and check for loose wires. Also check if the preamp (if it's the bass I'm thinking of, the preamp board sits a long way down in the bass) isn't accidentally making contact with anything it shouldn't (like cavity shield, etc.).
  3. Is the preamp in the circuit?
