Active or Passive

    Hello i was just wondering what is the difference between active and passive basses i have a fender p-bass and i am not sure what mine is? thanks for the help

    Most likely it is passive; however, there are many models of P bass. Could you be a little more specific?

    its probally passive. is there a small rectangel cut out of the back of your bass with a small plastic cover. if there is take it off and see if theres a battery. also check under the pickguard.
  4. Why I'm answering this I don't know but I thought I might have a go before someone else steps in. An active bass has an onboard pre-amp, which you can use to change the sound of the bass with all those pretty knobs. Passive doesn't. YOU CAN'T LEAVE AN ACTIVE BASS WITH THE LEAD IN BECAUSE THE BATTERY WILL GO DOWN FAST!!
